How to register for an IFTA license in Texas
Texas is your base jurisdiction for IFTA licensing and reporting if you:
- have qualified motor vehicles registered in Texas that travel on Texas highways
- have an established place of business in Texas from which motor carrier operations are performed
- maintain operational control and records for qualified motor vehicles in Texas or can make those records available in Texas.
A motor carrier that enters Texas with a qualified motor vehicle more than five times in a calendar year requires obtaining an IFTA license or interstate trucker license.
You can download a Texas Application for Fuels Tax License (Form AP-133) at comptroller.texas.gov/forms/ap-133.pdf, or contact the Texas IFTA office at 800-252-1383.
